First of all, you should learn how to draw a hand, and after this, you will be able to draw various hand poses.
You may need HB pencils, paper, an eraser, and a scale for taking measurements.
So, what are you waiting for? Let’s get started!
How to draw the structure of a hand (Steps):
- Draw the palm
- Draw circles (four for fingers and one for thumb)
- Measure the fingers
- Draw fingers
- Joints of fingers
- Draw circles at each joint
- Measure and draw the thumb
- Make outlines
- Shading the outline
Shape the palm:
Use your 2HB pencil to shape the palm. First, draw a rectangle and then draw a slop on the top of the left corner. Make the slop of the right corner down as compared to the left one, as shown in the picture.
Draw circles (four for fingers and one for thumb)
Draw four circles on the top of the slop drawn in the first step. Make sure these four circles contain equal spacing among them. Now draw another one on the vertical side of the rectangle. That 5th circle will be located on the bottom at the left vertical line for the thumb. The 5th circle should be 4\5th of the total length on the side of a rectangle. You may use your measuring scale for taking measurements correctly.
Measure the fingers
The dotted line shows the maximum length of the middle finger. If you want to measure the middle finger length, measure the length from wrist to knuckles. Use your middle finger as a reference because it is the longest one, and we can use it to find the length of the other three fingers.
To measure the length of the other three fingers, draw another curved line or slop on the top of the curve by keeping the length ½ and matching that curve to each circle by drawing three lines,
Joints of fingers:
It’s time to find the joints of each finger by adding two ticks on the drawn line of the middle finger. These two ticks are roughly one-quarter of the way.
Draw two more similar curves or slops according to the ticks of the middle finger. Length should be the same as taking in the above steps.
Draw circles at each joint:
Draw circles at each joint, and the size should be medium to large. The size of circles varies from top to bottom and shows the structure of hand joints. These two more circles will be drawn on the two middle curved lines.
Measure and draw the thumb:
To measure the length of the thumb, draw a curved line. That curved line will start from the bottom part of the thumb, where we have drawn a circle. The length of the thumb varies from person to person to fingers.
Draw two more circles on the curved line of the thumb. The measurements should be 1\2 of the total length of the thumb and between these circles.
Outlining the hand:
Make outlines around the fingers, thumb, and palm. To make a fatty or chubby hand increase the fat between fingers and thumb joints. But if you want to draw a skinny hand, you can decrease the fat among the joints. Now you understand the whole structure of a hand. It will allow you to draw hand poses easily and step by step.
Now we are going to draw different hand gestures. If you are completely done with learning hand proportions and structure, then it will be easy for you to draw various anime hand poses. Was that much easy and interesting, wasn’t that?

Pose No 1: How to Draw Hand with Pointing at Viewer Step by Step
- Outline the palm
- Draw the thumb and fingers
- Draw the fingers and place the circles on joints
- Complete your drawing
Please keep in mind that if you are going to draw these anime hand poses with pencil and paper, make sure that you’ll draw very light and gentle lines to erase them while drawing different steps easily.
Outline the palm:
Try to make palm as the above-drawn method. First of all, make the rectangle and then make a slop on the sharp corner of the palm one is slightly bent, and the other one is on the top, just as shown in the picture.
Draw the thumb and fingers:
Draw the index finger, lager, and then normal pointing out on the tip of the finger. Now draw the thumb, which is a little low on the palm. Connect the outlines of the finger and thumb.
Draw the fingers and place circles on the joints:
Now shaping the other fingers line on the palm individually. Make one circle on the joint of the middle finger and the other two. One circle is far away compared to the two circles on the middle line of the finger.
Draw circles on the joints of the fingers and thumb. The two circles drawing on each other are mildly messed up on the finger at the place of joints. Outline the knuckles and make some wrinkles around the thumb that point out the actual shape of the closed hand with pointing out one finger.
Make these circles by drawing very mild and light lines, as there is a need to erase them after completing your drawing.
Complete your drawing:
Draw two ticks on the pointing finger on the drawn circles, pointing out the place of joints, and after drawing the two slops or wrinkles on the finger, erase the circles. Erase the circles drawn above in STEP 3 and make wrinkles around the circles with darker strokes. These wrinkles should be drawn around the index finger and thumb. Draw the nail on the thumb by making a fine stroke and connect all the strokes carefully. Complete your drawing as shown in the reference picture.
Pose 2: How to Draw a Hand with finger Pointing Out Step by Step
- Outline the palmDraw the pointing out a finger (index finger) and thumb
- Draw and shape the knuckles
- Finish pointing out hand drawing
Outline the palm:
Outline the palm by using the rectangle method discussed at the start of the article in the first step. Draw rough and mild strokes as there may need to erase them. There is no need to draw the thumb as the hand is viewing from the top of the palm.
Draw the pointing out a finger (index finger) and thumb:
Start drawing roughly, making strokes, and shaping the thumb and index finger. There is no need to draw the finger longer because the hand is pointing away. Also, draw the thumb shorter; they may be the same in length with a slight difference.
Draw the shape and knuckles:
Add smaller curves or wrinkles on the starting point of the wrist and around the knuckles. Shape the finger, thumb and, wrist of the hand.
You may also place circles to understand the joints of fingers and thumb that are pointing out.
Finish pointing out hand drawing:
Let’s complete the drawing by making drawer strokes and refining the hand pointing out the drawing. Draw the smaller curves on the joints of the index finger pointing away and draw a nail pointing out the finger. There is no need to draw the nails on other fingers as they are not showing. Also, draw a wrinkle or a small curved line on the thumb at the place of the circle and make strokes darker and smoother. Draw a nail on the thumb.
Pose 3: How to Draw Peace sign Hand Step by Step
Steps including here;
- Outline the palm
- Draw stretched out fingers and thumb
- Draw the smaller bend and fold fingers
- Complete the peace sign hand drawing
Outline the palm:
Draw a rough drawing to shape the palm. Also, draw a curved line inside the palm, slightly bent down, as shown in the reference picture.
Draw stretched out fingers and thumb:
Draw the outlines of the thumb and two stretched fingers. Join the curved line with the outline of the thumb. Make the strokes to draw the two-peace sign hand. You may also draw circles on the joints of fingers and thumb to understand the position of two stretched fingers.
Draw the smaller bend and fold fingers:
Circles on joints point out the positioning of closed fingers and a two-peace showing hand. Draw the fingers and shape them around the circles.
Now erase the extra lines or strokes to make your drawing clear and smooth.
Complete your peace hand drawing:
Now complete your drawing by making curved lines on fingers. Draw two smaller slops or wrinkles on the fingers and two on the joints of stretched fingers. Shape them carefully and make the strokes darker. Erase the rough areas in the drawing. Draw two curved lines on the starting point of the wrist, slightly joining one curved line with the slop of the palm. Draw two smooth, slightly curved lines to show the size of the arm. Draw the nails on the folded fingers and the thumb.
Pose No 4: How to Draw Reaching Hand Step by Step
Step including here;
- Outline the shape of the palm
- Draw fingers and thumb
- Draw the smaller bend curves
- Complete the reaching hand drawing
Outline the shape of the palm:
Draw the shape of the palm by making slops on a rectangle. Use the rectangle method for drawing the shape of the palm. Draw a curved line inside the palm, which is slightly on the right side, as shown in the figure.
Draw fingers and thumb:
To draw the outer fingers and thumb, you draw circles at their joints. Draw the thumb outline slightly bent down. Draw two curves along the wrist and make slight strokes around the fingers.
Draw smaller bend curves:
After finishing the rough outline of the fingers and hand, draw smaller curves based on fingers and thumb. Draw another smaller curve inside the palm and slightly join them.
You may also place small circles inside the finger at the place of their joints. Now by placing circles roughly, you may see the position of each joint.
Complete the reaching hand drawing:
Erase the roughly made circles and make the strokes darker. Draw two bent, slightly curved lines inside the palm which are opposite to each other in direction. The wrinkles around the palm should be at the same distance. Do not bend the fingers as compared to the thumb.
